Meet The Staff

Andy Bathje has been our Executive Director since 2008 and was previously a board member. Formerly he held multiple positions at Asbury University including: Associate Dean of Leadership Development, Director of Adventure Programs and Part-time Counselor. He continues as an adjunct professor in the recreation department. He lives in Wilmore with his wife, Katie and daughters, Phoebe & Lila. He believes the 3 responsibilities of Christians are to “look up to God, out to others and down for trash!”

Jenna is from NC but came to live in Wilmore KY when the former Confrontation Point Ministries moved to the area.  While supporting the ministry in the summers she attended Asbury Seminary and received her MDiv.  She just recently married former staffer Roger Brock April 2014 on AdventureServe’s property. Roger and Jenna are expecting their first child in May 2017. Jenna has been with AdventureServe for a number of years starting as a Home Repair staffer in 2005.  She has a love for the ministry God is doing here through the staff and programs of AdventureServe.  She is a forever student who loves Jesus, the outdoors, and hanging out with college and youth kids.

Born and raised in Wilmore, Jonathan or Mogli (sometimes shortened to Mog) first came to AdventureServe as a seasonal staffer while attending Berea College. From rock-climbing to unicycling, Jonathan loves all kinds of outdoor activities and is a regular expedition member with the Cave Research Foundation at Mammoth Cave.  Jonathan was really excited when God brought him back to AdventureServe in 2013. “I have personally experienced so much growth at AdventureServe, and it is a huge blessing to be a part of God’s plan to transform the lives of others.” Jonathan and his wife Anna live in Wilmore and are excited about serving God and others through the work of AdventureServe.

From Lexington, KY, now a happy resident of AdventureServe Ministries’ base camp with Jonathan “Mogli” Carman. They were married in Wilmore in 2011 with a dream of living here someday. Anna is thrilled to finally be able to be an official part of the AdventureServe team as the Admin Manager since 2014 and is enjoying life on the property.

Hope grew up in Louisiana and came to Wilmore to attend Asbury University in 2009. Hope started at AdventureServe as a Wilderness Trip Coordinator in 2010. Since then Hope has helped with various trips and projects at AdventureServe, and even brought her youth group on an ASM trip when she was serving as a Youth Director. During the year, Hope is a full time Yoga Teacher. Hope married Daniel Alexander in August 2016 and they enjoy all kinds of adventures – hiking, climbing, canoeing etc. – with their dog, Hildegard. Hope also loves to cook, drink excellent coffee, sing, and connect with people.

David is from La Paz, Bolivia where he started mountaineering, ice-climbing, mountain-biking and generally any sort of outdoor adventure he can get himself into. David assists with design and photography, bringing his experience of running a successful photography business to bear. In the summer you may also be fortunate enough to have him run one of our trips with your group.

Lisa is a small town girl who loves to challenge herself and help others. Her passions for adventure and service led her to study Social Work and Adventure Leadership at Asbury University, as well as devote her summers to working at AdventureServe Ministries the past 5 years. She is a hard worker who enjoys going on road trips, cuddling with dogs, and always has an Ale8 in her hand. This summer she is changing positions and joining the Home Repair program where she will be working with her fiancé, Oliver Thompson.

Oliver was born and raised back in the woods of Ashland City TN alongside his 5 other siblings. He loves working with his hands, going on adventures, and telling folks what Christ has done in his life. He first came to AdventureServe in 2014 to run one trip and has been back ever since. Little did he know that three years later he would not only be engaged but working alongside the gorgeous Lisa Troyer, who he met at AdventureServe his first summer. He is the Home Repair regional manager this year and digs it! If you’re ever lookin’ for him, just go to where the blacktop ends and you’ll find him cutting up a tree, working on a house, or down in mud hole somewhere, living life to the fullest!!!
