COVID-19 Impact on Staff

“COVID-19 has affected so many of us and as a first-time Mystery Trip Manager, I did not foresee the challenges I would have to navigate for work. In the past, I have participated with AdventureServe as a trip leader, so I thought my struggles this year would be missing being a trip leader or stressing about planning a perfect trip for the groups. I never expected the challenge to be planning trips in the midst of a global pandemic! In this time, I have had to embrace creativity to navigate the challenges of how to make our trips engaging and fun despite the restrictions in place. We are looking at how to involve our groups digitally on our social media while sending videos or making care packages for the elderly in nursing homes. While these challenges are overwhelming at times, it is exciting to see the ways one can serve by thinking outside the box! In addition, the need for continuing to serve our communities is even more evident during this time. I am hopeful that our participants will get a chance to creatively serve their neighbors here in Jessamine and Fayette county in this time where lots of people need beacons of light in their lives.” -Stephanie Echeverry, Mystery Trip Manager

As you can see from Stephanie’s experience, COVID-19 is significantly impacting AdventureServe Ministries. On May 4, we made the difficult decision to cancel June programs due to Kentucky guidelines. At this point, July 2020 programs are still being planned. We are currently making physical camp improvements and necessary protocol changes for re-opening. We also plan to serve a few home-owners in June by doing specific home repair projects with a handful of local volunteers. If you have questions about your program in July or later in the year please contact us!

We are also excited to offer an Adventure Day Camp for 6th-9th graders July 6th-10th and we still have a few spots left! This experience will grow your child’s love of nature, confidence with others, personal responsibility, and outdoor skills. Our goal is to foster experiential education to teach the kids skills like rock climbing, caving, cooking over fires, orienteering, and more! Click the image above to sign up!
